The noise-rock cosmonauts of Upper Wilds, hailing from Brooklyn and true explorers of the stars – the power trio led by Dan Friel, co-founder of Parts & Labor – return with a new opus of raw and incandescent anthems. "Mercury," their fastest and most explosive album to date, is a meditation on death. Friel reflects on his battle with skin cancer, climate change, funerals, Henry Kissinger, and a world that seems to be engulfed in flames. Following recent tours with bands like Pelican, Uniform, Psychic Graveyard, and Savak, the trio unleashes increased speed with surgical precision, giving each turn a striking force. The incandescent and relentless riffs of "Mercury" are captured with remarkable power and intensity by sound engineer Travis Harrison, and elevated by the long-standing collaboration of Jeff Tobias and the voice of Erin Dawson.
