UNTITLED WITH DRUMS is a quartet from Clermont-Ferrand, whose decade-long career has gradually established them as a pillar of uncompromising alternative rock within a scene that too often plays it safe. Their debut album, ‘Hollow’, propelled them onto the stages of Hellfest and the Nuits de Fourvière, and it is with ‘Made Flesh’ that these foundations take on a more assertive dimension. The album does not venture into metaphysical abstraction; it speaks of the human experience. Ten tracks, each narrated in the first person, exploring a different facet of the psyche: the latent need to dominate, the comfortable numbness of denial, the particular injustice of seeing others get away with things unscathed. The approach is satirical, but never detached: these are states that the band embodies on the album, not distant observations. Musically, ‘Made Flesh’ reflects this tension: Lucas D.'s guitar oscillates between power and texture without ever settling into a formula, Nicolas Z.'s synthesizers have become a structuring element rather than just a color, and Rémy D.'s drumming ensures the cohesion of the whole with a precision that never falls into rigidity. Martin L.B.'s vocals carry an emotional weight that gives even the most sarcastic moments of the album the necessary strength. Recorded in a small town near Clermont-Ferrand and shaped by producer Cyrille Gachet into an album harder than anyone expected, ‘Made Flesh’ is the result of a process that has left its mark – and the album bears witness to that.
