Le Monde de Kurosawa

Description

The World of Kurosawa Ten years have passed since Sébastien Paindestre’s last trio recording session. Not that he has been inactive, quite the contrary. Between the return of his Amnesiac Quartet for a third volume dedicated to the music of Radiohead, the American adventure of Atlantico with Dave Schroeder, two Border Jazz incursions as a duo with Nicolas Prost at the crossroads of jazz and classical music, not to mention various fruitful collaborations (Tokyo Paris Express, Cyclone Quest or Clément Dodray’s quintet), the pianist has fully satisfied his appetite for plural musics. Considered one of the masters of world cinema, a humanist and innovative director of more than 30 feature films between 1943 and 1993, Kurosawa left his mark on history with works such as Rashomon, The Seven Samurai, Ikiru or Ran. It has also long been known how indelible a film’s music can be in people’s minds, and what stands out above all when listening to this recording is the euphoria that runs through it from start to finish. For more than the drama of Kurosawa’s scripts, and far from adding a dark note to his worldview, it is a pleasure mingled with jazz and cinephilia that is here, as it were, staged by three musicians at the height of their rapport.
