La Contre-Réforme à Brescia / Œuvres sacrées pour voix seules, chœur et orgue

Description

Gregorio Zucchini, Floriano Canale, and Antonio Mortaro. What do these three composers have in common? At least three traits: they all lived at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, they are the emblematic figures of their respective traditions (Benedictine, Augustinian, and Franciscan), and, through their wanderings, these monk-composers worked in various regions of Veneto, particularly in Brescia. This anthology offers the listener the opportunity to appreciate the stylistic nuances of these three composers while presenting a plausible historical context that highlights the diversity of composers as well as the variety of composition and interpretation practices. During this journey of discovery, the listener will also explore the works of the famous Venetian brothers Andrea and Giovanni Gabrieli.
