In 1962, Brendon Grimshaw bought the uninhabited island of "Moyenne" in the Seychelles and settled there permanently 10 years later. He lived there alone for 39 years until his last breath, away from the consumerist world and in total immersion with nature and the surrounding wildlife. With the help of René Lafortin, they built his house, created nearly 5 kilometers of trails, replanted 16,000 trees, attracted 2,000 new species of birds, and introduced over a hundred giant tortoises. In 2008, this island became a National Park and now houses two-thirds of the wildlife in the Seychelles. This modern-day Robinson Crusoe lived an incredible love story with nature that enlightens us about the human capacity to make life essential, harmonious, simple, and useful. This exemplary act of resistance reveals a direct parallel with the artistic work of Christophe Marguet, as a necessary and vital retreat, indispensable to creation. Deeply influenced by this man's commitment, he wrote an unprecedented repertoire as an evocation of the daily life that Brendon Grimshaw could have experienced on his island.
