Into The Waves

Description

After her acclaimed debut album, Out of the Dark, Maiah Wynne explores on Into the Waves the emotions that follow trauma, between fear and hope, vulnerability and resilience. Melodic and free, the album evokes a healing process marked by turbulence, but also optimism. Written, produced, and largely recorded by Wynne during a period of major change — an international tour, a move, returning to school, and rebuilding a new life — the album was often recorded on the road, in hotel rooms, with just a computer. Wynne plays more than a dozen instruments on it. She is joined notably by cellist Bethany Joyce, violinist Avelyn Reynolds, guitarist Brooks Berg, and Alex Lifeson, a Rush legend. Musically, Into the Waves moves between intimate folk, alternative rock, and cinematic arrangements. Among the standout moments, “Girl Dinner” incorporates audience voices recorded during concerts, illustrating the sense of connection and collective catharsis at the heart of the album. A composer since the age of seven, Wynne has also distinguished herself as lead singer of Envy of None alongside Alex Lifeson, while multiplying collaborations and personal projects.
