Saxophonist Asaf Yuria, based in New York, is not one of those musicians who reproduces the same record twice. Five years ago, he released the remarkable "Exorcisms" on the Jojo Records label, where he was accompanied by a sextet of New York musicians who are relatively unknown in Europe. An album designed around a repertoire of original compositions. Today, for In Light of a New Moon, Asaf Yuria has gathered a quartet of famous musicians, focusing on a repertoire of covers, recorded at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs. What hasn’t changed is Asaf Yuria's deep love for the hard bop movement, a music that uses the improvisational foundations of bebop in a more playful and energetic form, drawing inspiration from blues, rhythm & blues, and gospel.
