Filia sion

Description

The Estonian ensemble Vox Clamantis brings together singers and instrumentalists who share a common interest in Gregorian chant (the founding chant of all Western classical music). While respecting the spirit of this repertoire, their interpretation of medieval music is not purely historical, and their approach, both in their work and in their selection of pieces, is contemporary. This album draws on the rich historical tradition surrounding the theme Filia Sion / Daughter of Zion (evoking, depending on the different eras and traditions: the holy city of Jerusalem, the Jewish people who built the temple on Mount Zion, the Virgin Mary, and the representation of the church). On this album, Vox Clamantis presents us with medieval music ranging from Gregorian chant to works by Perotin, Hildegard Von Bingen and Petrus Wilhelmi de Grudencz.
