This record highlights a fundamental practice of Italian sound civilization between the 16th and 18th centuries, the dialogue of two organs in polychoral space and the gradual emergence of a specifically utilized instrumental repertoire. Echo canzonas by Bastiano Chilese, Pietro Lappi, and Giovanni Battista Grillo, pages by Adriano Banchieri and anonymous masters, intabulations after Willaert, as well as rarities from the manuscripts of Castell'Arquato converge in a journey of great historical distinction. The guiding idea of the project, entrusting two keyboards with the direct intabulation of the eight-voice compositions and the antiphonal redistribution of pieces originally designed for a single organ, restores to the sound space its original responsive eloquence.
