Café de Maurizi – Czardas Rhapsodie is an invitation to travel into the heart of music inspired by Gypsy influences and the popular traditions of Central and Eastern Europe. From folk melodies to fiery dances, this recording explores a musical universe rich in colors and emotions through fourteen pieces, including Czardas Rhapsodie, Youchka, Romance à Tolstoï, Tes yeux noirs gipsy, Hora Romanesca, and Viola Zingara. A warm and inspired album that celebrates the soul of Gypsy music and the art of musical storytelling. The composer Oreste De Maurizi (1897-1969) was a pianist who played in the 1930s with the best musicians from Transylvania, notably the violinist Gabor Radics and his orchestra. Our composer, born in Toulon and deceased in Paris, was able to recompose and orchestrate many famous timeless Gypsy melodies from Hungary, Romania, Ukraine, etc., creating fantasies, rhapsodies, dances, and original songs.
