Elena Kats-Chernin: Setting Out Setting Out is the first concerto for solo bassoon, accompanied by strings, marimba, piano, and celesta – a bold assembly that sparkles with unexpected colors and textures. Composed specifically for Kim Walker, this four-movement work draws from the composer’s childhood memories at the Sydney Conservatorium. Anne Boyd: YuYa II YuYa II is a symphonic poem in a single movement for bassoon and strings. The music flows organically, reflecting the psychological journey of the protagonist in the Noh drama "Yuya." Elena Kats-Chernin: Reinventions Reinventions is a suite of short pieces inspired by J.S. Bach's Two-Part Inventions, playable on various instrumental combinations. Each movement transforms one of Bach's inventions through contemporary rhythmic and harmonic language. Barry Conyngham: FallingWater Commissioned for the centenary of the Sydney Conservatorium and written for Kim Walker, FallingWater is a concerto for two solo bassoons and orchestra. The work is inspired by the architectural genius of Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater house and the disciplined art of Japanese samurai culture.
