A La Fiesta !

Description

This recording celebrates the feast and Christmas music, but above all it is an opportunity to discover an overlooked Catalan composer, José de San Juan, one of the most famous of his time in Spain, born in Olot (Girona) in 1687 and died in Madrid in 1735. The works on this album are villancicos, that is, Christmas songs performed in churches mainly during the Christmas matins (December 24) and Epiphany (January 5). This music comes back to life thanks to Cantoría, a vocal ensemble specializing in the performance of the Iberian vocal repertoire of the Renaissance and early Baroque – their first album, recorded at the Ambronay Cultural Centre in 2022, received the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik – and its founder, singer Jorge Losana. Born in Murcia and based in Barcelona, he carries out intense artistic and educational work to promote the Spanish repertoire and cultural decentralization.
