The monumental organ of St. Ludgeri Church in Norden, a masterpiece by builder Arp Schnitger built in 1688, offers an ideal setting for this music: its 46 stops spread over several sound levels and its modified meantone temperament reveal all the color, polyphonic clarity and expressive power of Buxtehude's writing.
