Antonio Sanches

Description

Funaná, the most African of Cape Verde's musical genres, had been banned by Portuguese colonial rule, but in 1974 the Cape Verdean group Bulimundo turned everything around by reviving the genre's roots and modernizing it with heavy electricity. A group of talented young musicians followed this path, among them António Sanches, who recorded Buli Povo! and thus delivered one of the strangest and most fascinating funaná albums of the era. Recorded in Lisbon in 1983, this record is a journey tinged with synthesizers at the borders of Cape Verdean popular music, a must-discover. 180g vinyl with gatefold sleeve including notes and photos of the artist.
