Stone flower

Description

Antonio Carlos Jobim (1927-1994), one of the great composers of popular music of the 20th century, emerged from the burgeoning bossa nova movement in Brazil in the late 1950s. Following the previous album, "Wave," also produced by Creed Taylor for the A&M label, the powerful yet calm "Stone Flower," recorded in 1970, was and still is an underrated album in Jobim's sparkling discography. It contained 8 little ignored gems such as the jazz waltz "Children’s Games," "Choro," "Andorinha," an impressive title as well as a version of the famous "Brazil" by Ary Barroso, inspired by "Aquarela do Brazil."
With the perfectly rhythmic arrangements of his Brazilian colleague Eumir Deodato, the lineup features Jobim on piano (acoustic and electric), acoustic guitar, and occasionally on vocals, with the veiled, almost whispered voice that characterizes him, Ron Carter on bass, Hubert Laws on flute, Joe Farrell on soprano saxophone, and Urbie Green on trombone among others. This reissue contains an alternative version of "Brazil," recorded during the same recording sessions.
