Stabat Mater

Description

Traditionally inspired by the figure of Mary at the foot of the cross, Antonin Dvorák’s “Stabat Mater” was suggested to him by the deaths of his children Josefa, Ruzena and Otokar, who died two years apart. The version he produced in 1877, for orchestra and voices, premiered in 1880, overflows with emotion and grief.
