This record allows us to experience the immense Mstislav Rostropovich in his prime. We first hear him in Dvořák's Cello Concerto, one of his favorite pieces recorded here in 1957 with conductor Adrian Boult and the Royal Philharmonic; his lyrical and assertive playing is all the more impressive given that he is only 30 years old. Twelve years later, David Oistrakh responds on the violin in Brahms' Double Concerto, providing him the opportunity to demonstrate, with the same orchestra conducted by George Szell, that he can push the cello to its most intimate limits. Excerpt from the "La Discothèque idéale Fnac" Guide 2016.
