Description

The group’s fifth album, but the first to be released on the DAPTONE label, Antibalas was recorded in two weeks in Brooklyn, at Daptone’s House of Soul studios. The circle is complete, since most of the collective’s members also work with other DAPTONE artists, including Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings and The Budos Band. In fact, Antibalas formed in 1997, at the same time as the Dap-Kings and TV on the Radio, in a Brooklyn loft where Tunde Adebimpe (TV On The Radio), Gabriel Roth (co-founder of Daptone Records, leader of the Dap-Kings and producer of this latest Antibalas album) and Martin Perna (saxophonist and founding member of Antibalas) lived. Antibalas has backed major artists in the studio and on stage such as Paul Simon, TV on the Radio, Public Enemy and Amy Winehouse; while David Byrne and Questlove have very publicly declared themselves fans of the group. In 2007, after the success of their album Security, several members were invited to collaborate on the musical Fela!, based on the life of Fela Kuti, which was a huge success on Broadway and in London.
