Anthrax is an American thrash metal band from New York. Founded by guitarists Scott Ian and Danny Lilker, the band has, as of 2016, eleven studio albums, twenty singles, and one EP with Public Enemy. The band is one of the most popular groups in the thrash scene of the 1980s. At the major emergence of the genre in the mid and late 1980s, Anthrax is dubbed one of the "Big Four of thrash" alongside Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer. They are also one of the first bands of the genre to sign with a major, Island Records in 1985. In 2015, Anthrax has sold over 15 million albums worldwide.
