An Australian who studied early music, harpsichord, and pianoforte in New York, Anthony Romaniuk has also developed a passion for improvisation, indie rock, and electronic music… This musical polyglot regularly collaborates with violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja (Take Two, Alpha 211), the vocal ensemble Vox Luminis, tenor Reinoud Van Mechelen, and cellist Pieter Wispelwey. For his first solo album, he explored nearly 10 centuries of music over 10 years, which he decided to perform on 4 different keyboards: the harpsichord, the pianoforte, the piano, and the Fender Rhodes. Fascinated by low notes and sustained notes (known as "pedals," descending from drones) – hence the title Bells – Anthony Romaniuk transcends the boundaries of classical orthodoxy, moving from Mozart to Crumb. An incredible collection of music and emotions that allows for a different discovery of Rameau, Byrd, Beethoven, Debussy, Purcell… We transition from Bartók's Mikrokosmos to a fascinating medieval melody that he has harmonized like a jazzman. Thanks to the delicate timbre of the Fender Rhodes, we experience Bach in a new way, as well as Chick Corea's magical Children’s Songs…
