Sony Classical celebrates the 80th anniversary of one of the most famous cellists of the 20th century, with 4 prestigious box sets. The Anner Bylsma collection spread over 4 box sets features no less than 38 CDs listing the best recordings of the cellist, including many legendary ones. Solo cellist of the Royal Orchestra of Amsterdam from 1962 to 1968, the Dutchman built his reputation through his interpretations on period instruments, of which he was one of the pioneers to reconsider this form of "authentic" playing. He then recorded the greatest masterpieces of the baroque repertoire that can be found in these four box sets. The first box set of 11 CDs includes the most beautiful sonatas for cello and suites performed by Bylsma, including the 2 historical recordings of Bach's cello suites from 1979 and 1992. The second (6 CDs) focuses on concertos and orchestral works where we also find the Archibudelli orchestra or Tafelmusik, followed by 2 chamber music box sets of 9 CDs and 12 CDs.
