Description

"'Equipped with a proven technique that allows her to express herself across a wide range, she possesses a fresh, charming, almost youthful timbre, and plays with all tempos, swinging with grace and flexibility.' This tribute, which the late Frank Tenot once paid to Ella Fitzgerald, would also describe with inspired precision the art and manner of a spiritual daughter of hers, born four decades later in Longfossé, in the North of France, named Anne Ducros, whose 'Something' wonderfully illustrates and confirms her plural and polyglot talent. This is the exquisite intertwining of three virtuoso voices, or the alliance and/or conversation of the vocal cords of the mistress of the house, Adrien Moignard's gypsy-tinged guitar, and Diego Imbert's double bass, superbly imbued with the memories of Charlie Haden and Jean-François Jenny-Clark, which traverses and surveys a superb array where twelve themes, as historical and legendary as Django Reinhardt's rarely verbalized 'Nuages' or the inseparable Beatles' 'Something,' succeed and flourish with elegant complicity, passing through the much-enjoyed 'Tea For Two' and the delightfully off-season charming 'April in Paris,' like those sources of happiness called 'standards' that, as here, offer themselves to a voice with an irresistible power of charm." --- PHILIPPE CARLES ---Anne Ducros was named BEST VOCAL ARTIST in 2002 and 2003 at the VICTOIRES DE LA MUSIQUE awards. "THE VOICE OF JAZZ" --- LE PARISIEN ---"It is not enough to hint here and there that Anne Ducros is the jazz singer that France had given up hoping for. It must be insisted upon and stated loudly that Anne Ducros is the best thing to have happened to vocal jazz in a very long time. Unlike virtual, manufactured, packaged, marketed, ready-to-consume lolitas, Anne Ducros is an exceptional singer, rich with a demanding and singular career, which gives her music all its substance." --- LE NOUVEL OBSERVATEUR ---"That Anne Ducros is one of the most interesting singers on the jazz scene is not news; even those unmoved by official recognition will have to admit the evidence, as this album testifies to the ease of an artist who has reached brilliant maturity." --- LE MONDE ---Specializing in baroque music (Couperin, Rameau, Bach), she decided to dedicate herself definitively to jazz in the mid-1980s. Anne DUCROS patiently "learned the ropes," working tirelessly to understand the codes of a music she felt was her means of expression. Her vocal technique, refined by the practice of baroque music, is a serious asset. In 1989, bolstered by several awards (1st prize for Vocalist at the Dunkerque Festival, 1st prize for Soloist at the Vienna Festival), she recorded her first album, DON'T YOU TAKE A CHANCE. From 1994, she also developed a teaching career. Recognition came with the support of violinist Didier Lockwood, who enabled her to record PURPLE SONGS with pianist Gordon Beck for DREYFUS music in 2001. That same year was her consecration; she received the Billie Holiday Prize from the Académie du Jazz, a DJANGO d'OR, and a Victoire de la Musique (best vocal artist) that same year. In 2003, CLOSE YOUR EYES, released with Toots Thielemans, earned her another Victoire de la MUSIQUE award. In 2006, she released an album accompanied by pianists such as Chick Corea, Enrico Pieranunzi, Jacky Terrasson, and a long-time collaborator, René Urtreger. "PIANO, PIANO" was her breakthrough album and, after Europe, opened doors to the most prestigious stages in Japan and the United States. 2007 - URBAN TRIBE, Anne DUCROS' 5th Album, recorded in New York. In 2008, Anne participated in the TV show Star Academy on TF1. In 2010, she recorded a new project as a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald, with 45 musicians from the Wind Orchestra: "ELLA MY DEAR," nominated for the Globes de Cristal for "female performer of the year." In 2013, her 7th album, "EITHER WAY from Marilyn to ELLA," was released under the NAÏVE label, enjoying huge public success and earning her national and international press (USA, Japan, etc.). On May 12, 2017, 'BROTHER BROTHER,' her eighth album, was released. This tribute to her music-loving brother, who passed away too soon the previous year, is an ode to the joy of life, blending the repertoires of pop, soul, jazz, and French chanson icons, from Sting to Yves Montand, Etta James, Stevie Wonder, and Juliette Gréco.
