Description

After the success of Xmal Deutschland with four albums on cult labels like 4AD, their leader Anja Huwe abandoned music to pursue a career in the visual arts. During the pandemic, she decided to return to music, encouraged by her longtime friend Mona Mur - singer, songwriter, and leader of the project Mona Mur & die Mieter from the early 80s. Together, they worked for a year and a half, composing, performing, and producing the tracks that would become the album Codes. Manuela Rickers, former guitarist of Xmal Deutschland, contributed by adding her signature guitars, which helped shape the overall sound dimension of Codes. With mixing and mastering by Jon Caffery (Joy Division, Gary Numan, Einstürzende Neubauten), the epic constructions crash and scatter, while the synthesized and elegant drones even feel claustrophobic at times.
