The Symphonies No. 3 & 4 by Ralph Vaughan Williams carry the emotional impacts of the Great War that conductor Andrew Manze manages to express here, with strength and dignity, at the head of the Liverpool Philharmonic. The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra is conducted by Andrew Manze, whose previous recordings of Ralph Vaughan Williams have been acclaimed by the public and the press. For this second volume dedicated to the British composer, Andrew Manze allows us to discover two major works, the Symphonies No. 3 and No. 4, which are particularly notable for having been deeply influenced in their composition by the Great War and its shocks throughout the century. A diffuse feeling of anger, remorse, and above all, resistance to the futility of war, all these emotions are present in Symphony No. 3, which is also subtitled the "War Requiem" by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
