Hildegard Lernt Fliegen is a joyful and rhythmic sextet, led by singer Andreas Schaerer. Together, they won the BMW World Jazz Award, while Andreas himself won the ECHO Jazz Award for Singer of the Year 2015. But far from resting on his laurels, he then undertook to compose for his band with the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra. The result is breathtaking: Lucerne's main concert hall was sold out, and on stage 65 musicians, as well as the highly respected conductor Mariano Chiacchiarini, created seductive and boundless music. From both a visual and acoustic standpoint, the show delivered: harmonious, at times improvised, the result is superb and denotes an unparalleled alchemy between the orchestra, the composer, and the conductor. The standing ovation and the many smiles at the end attest to this, smiles that you will most certainly have when listening to this magnificent recording.
