"Fado" is the Portuguese word for "destiny", and it also perfectly describes the character of the eponymous music: Sadness, melancholy and longing characterize this unique music. The last Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in Lisbon, the capital of Fado, was an opportunity for the typically Portuguese musical style to experience a renaissance of a special kind.
