Shir Hashirim

The Italian-Polish black metal band Amalekim continues its collaboration with Avantgarde Music for the release of its third album, 'Shir Hashirim', two years after 'Avodah Zarah', their previous opus. Founded in 2020 by Mróz (vocals and guitar), Amalekim released its first album, 'HVHI', the same year. In 2022, the band, with a completely renewed lineup, released its second album, 'Avodah Zarah', which was critically acclaimed. The path continues with 'Shir Hashirim', their third opus, taking a more innovative approach and encompassing more dissonant sounds. This new opus once again addresses the occult, the profane, and the hermetic, not only in the music but also in the concept and the lyrics. The concept of inversion returns as the guiding thread of this new opus. As in Avodah Zarah, the biblical metaphor is at the heart of the project. In this case, the parable of the two mothers and Solomon, as presented on the cover, lends itself to a complex interpretation, particularly regarding the role of power and the choice to submit to it, dogmatic authority, divine law, and how these references, crystallized and spread in everyday life, are in reality fragile and not so unshakeable. The presence of alchemical and occult references from different traditions is, once again, intended for the experienced listener. For those who know how to seek, with eyes and ears open, for those who are not afraid to take a step into the abyss, there will be references and formulas, both near and far.
