Description

Alice Sara Ott and Francesco Tristano approach with carefree ease, in this recording for two pianos, the classics of the early 20th century. Influenced by electronic music and relying on repetitive rhythms that awaken the instinct to dance, they have taken these pieces with Russian, Viennese, and Parisian accents and transferred them into the atmosphere of current nightclubs. A soft shell groove, a piece composed especially by Tristano, provides the necessary contemporary complement to the program: a relaxed groove in a 4/4 measure with a techno feeling. Anyone listening to the classical repertoire today knows what to expect. Stravinsky is not a stranger, nor are Ravel and Rimsky-Korsakov. But Ott and Tristano bring their works back to their roots. Not in terms of sound or aesthetics, but programmatically and spiritually. They take the scandalous liberty of inventing something completely new that has existed for a long time.
