To mark the 20th anniversary of the passing of Alexandre Lagoya and what would also have been the 90th anniversary of his birth, Decca Records France presents for the first time the complete collection of his solo recordings and with Presti for Philips and RCA, gathered in a 10cd box set including many previously unreleased tracks on cd. Alexandre Lagoya is recognized as one of the best French guitarists of the 20th century. His style, characterized by clarity, elegance, and virtuosity, has made an important contribution to the history of guitar interpretation. His musicality is closely linked to that of Ida Presti, an incomparable guitar prodigy, with whom he formed an impressive duo with an international reputation. Indeed, the two guitar giants left behind precious recordings for both labels, showcasing the incredible diversity and richness of the repertoire they explored. They traversed the Renaissance (Mudarra, Dowland), the Baroque (Bach, Scarlatti, Handel, Marcello, Vivaldi), Classicism (Diabelli, Sor), Romanticism (Schubert, Tarrega), the 19th century (Albéniz, Granados), and the 20th (Moreno Torroba, Villa-Lobos, Rodrigo), enriching the classical guitar repertoire with numerous transcriptions and commissions from contemporary composers, as well as their own compositions. This testimony of abundant passion, dedication, inventiveness, and musical joy perfectly summarizes the art of the guitar that was theirs.
