In 2019, at the age of 22, Alexandre Kantorow became the first French pianist to win the gold medal at the prestigious Tchaikovsky Competition, as well as the Grand Prix, awarded only three times before in the history of the competition. Before this recognition, he had already recorded three multi-award-winning albums - Diapason d'Or of the Year, Choc de Classica of the Year, Victoire de la Musique Classique, Editor's Choice of Gramophone - which earned him critical acclaim, ranging from "the young tsar of the piano" (Classica) to "the reincarnation of Liszt" (Fanfare). This recital, his first since the Tchaikovsky Competition, offers a comprehensive view of his virtuosity and lyricism, which always reveal themselves through his fine and profound stylistic accuracy. This program is built around three rhapsodies. This genre, whose improvisational character perfectly matches the spirit of Romanticism, is here elevated by three very different artistic temperaments - Franz Liszt, Johannes Brahms, and Béla Bartók.
