At the head of the Orchestre National de Lille since 2016, Alexandre Bloch has chosen to dedicate an entire season of concerts to Mahler's symphonies, of which the 7th (1904-1905) is the least frequently recorded. This is an unfair treatment, as this work, later dubbed "The Song of the Night," equally reflects the metaphysical grandiosity that inhabited the Austrian composer during its creation. From the mournful Adagio of the first movement to the thunderous Rondo that concludes the piece, Alexandre Bloch and his orchestra manage to take us from the anxiety of twilight to the ecstasies of dawn.
