Description

Still very little known, the music of theorist Bellerofonte Castaldi and guitarist Domenico Pellegrini fascinates today's performers as it showcases a lush imagination while raising many questions about execution... Although he was the first to praise the innovative style of his friend Monteverdi, Castaldi's works are marked by a strong Renaissance spirit. Both composers favor the most classical forms (dances, courantes, gaillardes) or more archaic ones (branles, battles, canzones). The lutenist, theorist, and baroque guitarist Albane Imbs presents her first solo album here. She founded her own ensemble, Les Kapsber'girls, and also plays in the orchestras of Jordi Savall, François Lazarevitch, Raphaël Pichon, or Rolf Lislevand, the great Norwegian lutenist/theorist who was her teacher. Both present here Capricci a due stromenti, which are the only example of music written for theorbo and tiorbino duos, a miniature theorbo imagined and played by Castaldi himself.
