Grand admirer of Ravel, Bartók, Oasis, and Tame Impala, a graduate of the Conservatory, a fine connoisseur of electronic keyboards and a drummer, the young pianist Alban Claudin has many strings to his bow. This young and talented artist has composed music for documentaries and short films, collaborated with prestigious brands (Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Van Cleef & Arpels...) while the most discerning connoisseurs of the young French scene have certainly already noticed him alongside La Féline, Voyou, or Yelle, whose "Je t’aime encore" he remixed, and of course with Clara Luciani in musical direction and on keyboards. Alban has long worked from his improvised studio in his childhood home, writing numerous pieces for his instrument of choice, the piano, but also for orchestra before deciding to consider making an album. The musician then focuses on piano composition and experiments in the studio with different ways of recording, in search of the sound that will make his music unique. "Even though it is only 300 years old, the piano has been exploited in every possible form and it is very difficult to reinvent this instrument, to make something that hasn't been done," explains Alban. Thus, stepping out of the shadow of others, he presents today, in his own name, It’s A Long Way To Happiness, whose melodic immediacy, almost pop, reveals an inspired composer with a smiling melancholy, carried by a luminous interpretation, between Yann Tiersen and Erik Satie. Designed as so many tunes to remember, Alban's compositions evoke in their simplicity the charm of childhood and its authentic and fragile nature, and their obvious fairy-tale quality awakens the heart of shared memories. "For me," he says, "melancholy is a form of well-digested nostalgia that makes you smile, as if the dramas of yesterday were meant to transform into lightness and, ultimately, do us good."
