*Zoot Sims Meets Hans Koller* brings together two tenor saxophonists with a distinctive style, whose musical paths converged long before their meeting in Germany in 1958. Koller had long admired Sims as well as the sound of Woody Herman's famous "Four Brothers," making their collaboration quite natural. This compilation combines three vibrant quintet recordings made for the Brunswick label in Cologne with an earlier concert produced by Joachim-Ernst Berendt in Baden-Baden; the latter featured some of the best European jazz musicians alongside trombonist Willie Dennis and drummer Kenny Clarke. While the tenor saxophone remains at the heart of their musical dialogue, occasional passages on alto saxophone and clarinet enrich the sound palette. A fascinating testament where American jazz and European jazz express themselves in the same musical language.
