In 2015, we discovered the quartet formed by Airelle Besson with the album Radio One. The reception from both critics and the public was unanimous. The chemistry and camaraderie between these four musicians explode on stage. The idea of a second album became an obvious choice. The new opus was intended to be a natural extension of the first, with the same approach of exploration and sound seeking. The collaborative creation, initially planned by Airelle Besson, had to be reinvented, like many things in 2020. And so, after a few days of rehearsals followed by recording at La Buissonne studio in August 2020, TRY! was born. The result reflects the process: open, spontaneous, intensely present. TRY! weaves patterns between shadow and light, hot and cold, inviting an ethereal and sensual journey. Organic and vibrant, this captivating album will stay with you for a long time. "THE MOST SOUGHT-AFTER FRENCH TRUMPETER OF THE MOMENT." --- JAZZ MAGAZINE ---. "A BUBBLE OF FINESSE AND ELEGANCE." "A GREAT POETIC BREATH!" --- TÉLÉRAMA ---. "AIRELLE BESSON IS AN IMMENSE MUSICIAN, THERE IS NO LONGER ANY DOUBT." --- CITIZEN JAZZ ---. "A MAGNIFICENT, SENSUAL QUEST FOR SOUND." --- JAZZ NEWS ---. "Airelle breathes a beautiful breeze into jazz..." --- LE FIGARO Magazine---. Winner of the 'Django Reinhardt' award from the Académie du Jazz (Best French Musician of the Year) and the 'Révélation' award at the Victoires du Jazz, Airelle has had an impressive career. In Coutances, at the "Jazz sous les Pommiers" festival, where she was in residence, she made a strong impression with her "Radio One" project, a quartet composed of pianist Benjamin Moussay, drummer Fabrice Moreau, and Swedish singer Isabel Sörling. Their album, released in 2016 by Naïve, received, like "Prélude," her duo album with Nelson Veras, an enthusiastic and unanimous reception from critics and the public. In 2017, Radio France and all European radio stations chose Airelle to lead the Euroradio Jazz Orchestra 2017. She composed, arranged, and conducted an hour of music for this orchestra of 14 emerging young European musicians. Trained by Wynton Marsalis, Pierre Gillet, and Kato Havas (a disciple of Yehudi Menuhin) at Oxford, and a graduate of the CNSM in Paris, the multi-talented trumpeter illuminates the European jazz scene with her projects: Airelle Besson Quartet "Radio One," her duo with Vincent Ségal, her duo with Lionel Suarez, and the Besson/Sternal/Burgwinkel trio. She is also a member of Lionel Suarez's Quarteto Gardel (album released in 2018) and Trio Aïrés (album released in 2017). A sought-after sidewoman and versatile composer/arranger (Metronomy, Orchestra National de Lyon), she has shared the stage with Charlie Haden and Carla Bley, Michel Portal, Youn Sun Nah, Manu Katché, Philip Catherine, Rhoda Scott, Daniel Humair, Baptiste Trotignon, Henri Texier, Tom Harrell, José James, Camélia Jordana, among others... She appears on some sixty albums and currently has over a hundred compositions. In all these formations, as well as in her own groups, Airelle Besson distinguishes herself by her ability to say a lot with few notes; in her playing, lightness and delicacy rise above a classical rigor. Driven by a concern for precision and accuracy (of discourse), her style is among the best that French jazz has to offer.
