This album marks a clear evolution in their journey, while distinctly standing apart from their beginnings. "Blood: Act I" sees the Detroit duo doubling down on audacity and immersing themselves even deeper into the streets. Whitaker's rhythms are gritty, complex, and dusty. His sample selection and ability to manipulate them are integral to the story, as are Ahk's lyrics. Ahk's singing has real reach. It has impact. He has remained the same character throughout both chapters of their story: the first album taking place in Jamaica, and "Blood: Act I" in the streets of Istanbul. His flow and flexibility have grown darker, and the album feels even grimier and more layered than its predecessor.
