With this quartet, Adèle Viret presents her personal compositions for the first time. It is a meeting place of the universes that touch and amuse her, an alloy of lyricism and rhythmic play with some touches of minimalist atmospheres. Exploring paths of multiple improvisations and taking on the challenge of a quartet without a 'bass' where the cello and piano alternate in taking over the low frequencies, she surrounds herself for this very first project with artists who are dear to her: Oscar Viret (trumpet), Wajdi Riahi (piano), Pierre Hurty (drums). - - The four musicians meet between Brussels, Paris, and the creative sessions of the Medinea program. In February 2023, the quartet's first concerts take place at the Jazz Station and Musique d'Ascenseur (Brussels) to accompany the release of their first EP 'Esquisses'. - - In March 2023, the group is named a laureate of Jazz Migration #9. They will be supported by this program for two years, including professional training and the construction of a tour throughout 2024. This tour is marked by highlights such as opening for Henri Texier's sextet and Harold Lopez-Nussa at the theaters in Quimper and Orléans, as well as the quartet's programming in festivals like Jazz in Marciac, Jazz in Arles, Jazz en Campus Clunisois, and Parfum de Jazz. Adèle Viret Quartet is also invited to perform internationally at the Nuoro Jazz Festival in Sardinia, at Bimhuis in Amsterdam, and in Belgium at Jazz Station and l’An Vert. - - In September 2023, the group is among the winners of the FoRTE grant awarded to emerging talents in the Île-de-France region, and in July 2024, they receive the first prize at the Euroradio Jazz Competition. - - The first album of Adèle Viret Quartet 'Close to the water' is now released. The musicians have notably benefited from the coaching of the incomparable Vincent Peirani in preparation for this recording.
