Description

The Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna, founded in 1666, became the most prestigious society of professional musicians on the Italian peninsula at the end of the 17th and beginning of the 18th century, comparable to the oldest congregation of musicians in Rome, the Accademia di Santa Cecilia. The preserved organ dates from 1673 and was commissioned from the renowned builder Carlo Traeri of Brescia, who lived in Bologna. This instrument was certainly used in the weekly essercizi or rehearsals, the true setting of the academy’s activities, along with the feast of the spiritual patron Saint Anthony of Padua. The CD contains compositions recorded in world premiere by a representative group of composers from the Accademia Filarmonica.
