Four Spirits is Abel Selaocoe's first cello concerto. Inspired by his South African roots, it explores four essential aspects of his life: ancestors, children, faith, and community. This four-movement recording blends cello, vocals, percussion, and orchestra. Selaocoe improvises, sings in African languages, and tells personal stories that guide the listener through his reflections. Co-commissioned by three international orchestras, the album was recorded in 2025 at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, with the Aurora Orchestra conducted by Nicholas Collon, and featuring Bernhard Schimpelsberger alongside Abel Selaocoe.
