People's instinctive travels and the Paths of rhythm

Description

Lors de sa sortie en 1990, People's Instinctive Travels And The Paths Of Rhythm marks a turning point for hip-hop. On this album, Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jarobi White, four childhood friends from Queens, New York, break away from the traditional codes of hip-hop. Like contemporary groups, including De La Soul and the Jungle Brothers, who would become central members of the Native Tongues collective, their influences, both musically and lyrically, are completely atypical in the world of hip-hop at the time.
If most groups build their tracks around soul and funk tunes, ATCQ stands out by drawing on 1970s jazz and rock. Their lyrics, conversational rather than confrontational, address social issues with refreshing sincerity and offbeat humor. Critics and audiences alike then praised the wind of change that ATCQ was bringing to the world of hip-hop:
The Source awarded the album a perfect score of 5 mics (a first for the magazine!) while The Village Voice described it as an « inspiring drug ». To celebrate its 25th anniversary, the album will be remastered from the original tapes by Bob Power, Grammy Award-winning sound engineer, and reissued with exclusive remixes by some of the biggest artists on today's hip-hop scene including J.Cole,Cee Lo and Pharrell Williams, all 3 of whom were heavily influenced by A Tribe Called Quest.
