Description

This album, which could be seen as a bridge between De La Soul and The Roots or Common, is a second perfect success for ATCQ and their intelligent, often abstract rap (Kamaal The Abstract will henceforth become Q-Tip's common nickname), always tinged with humor and irony. Drawing again from jazz the essence of their woody and winding sound, sampling The Last Poets, Art Blakey, but also Jimi Hendrix several times, the Steve Miller Band, or Average White Band, they construct multiple layers of beats to create these raps that become songs with Q-Tip's musical flow. Both minimalist and rich, this record, into which one sinks like into a thick carpet, hides under its nonchalant appearance real fragmentation bombs that insinuate their permanence in the collective memory. Thus, these dialogues between Q-Tip and Phife, in perfect harmony on "Check The Rhime" and throughout the 14 tracks. We finish beautifully with the support of Leaders Of The New School, from which emerges a natural leader and family friend, destined for a remarkable solo career: Busta Rhymes, brilliant on "Scenario."
