2cellos (Luka Sulic & Stjepan Hauser)

Description

The Croatian cellist Stjepan Hauser (born in 1986) and his Slovenian counterpart Luka Sulic (born in 1987) are two soloists recognized worldwide by classical music lovers. Friends since adolescence, they met at the Conservatory of Zagreb and both continued their studies in Vienna (Austria). The former, knighted by Mstislav Rostropovich in Person, of whom he is the last student, is making a meteoric career internationally, followed by the latter who also wins some awards. One fine day, these two rock fans improvise on pieces by their favorite bands and take on the challenge of adapting hits for their instrument Ab Urbe Condita. The duo 2Cellos was born and offers a version of "Smooth Criminal" (Michael Jackson) that is a hit on YouTube, quickly followed by other versions of hits by U2, Coldplay, Muse, Nirvana, Sting, Kings of Leon, Guns N'Roses, or Nine Inch Nails. The album 2Cellos released in June 2011 by Sony is followed by popular success and a thirty-date tour opening for Elton John. On July 25, they perform at the iTunes Festival in London. The two cellists have not abandoned their respective careers as great soloists.
