Def Leppard originated in Sheffield, UK, in 1977, quickly becoming a key figure in the new wave of British heavy metal. The original lineup centered around bassist Rick Savage and guitarist Pete Willis; vocalist Joe Elliott and guitarist Steve Clark joined shortly after. The band’s debut album On Through The Night (1980) began their commercial ascent, followed by High 'N' Dry in 1981, which included the breakthrough single "Bringin' On The Heartbreak." Their third album, Pyromania (1983), sold over 10 million copies, elevating their international profile.
After a tragic car accident cost drummer Rick Allen his left arm, the band recorded the more melodic and pop-oriented Hysteria in 1987, which achieved massive commercial success.
