Formed after a collaboration announced in November 2009 following performances at a Los Angeles blues event, Black Country Communion quickly gained recognition for their fusion of hard rock and blues influences. Producer Kevin Shirley suggested the lineup including Jason Bonham on drums and Derek Sherinian on keyboards. The band began recording their debut album in January 2010 in California's Shangri La Studios. Their name reflects a nod to the industrial Black Country region in England, though modified to avoid legal issues.
