Let the music make you move, This is the rhythm of the night…
Dance vinyl records are tied to club history: the 12-inch single was born in the disco era of the mid-1970s to give DJs extended mixes and a louder cut than a 7-inch. This selection gathers dance music vinyl records, albums and 12-inches alike, from disco to 1990s Eurodance and current productions. You will find Cerrone, Groove Armada, Vitalic, The Blaze, Confidence Man, 2 Brothers on the 4th Floor and Twenty 4 Seven. Whether you spin records or just listen at home, the format keeps full low end and real dynamics.
The 12-inch single remains the reference for a dance track: few songs per side, often cut at 45 RPM, which gives the groove room and delivers a punchier sound. You usually get the extended mix, a remix or a dub or instrumental version. An LP works better for home listening, but a double LP will always beat a long album squeezed onto one disc. If you DJ, favor flat records and skip picture discs, which usually sound worse. Colored vinyl is a collector's pleasure rather than a sonic upgrade.
From the disco years, Cerrone's "Love in C Minor" (1976) and Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" (1977), produced by Giorgio Moroder, paved the way for electronic dance music. Italo disco has its own icons, such as Pino D'Angiò with "Ma quale idea." In the 1990s house, techno and Eurodance took over the charts, with acts like 2 Brothers on the 4th Floor and Twenty 4 Seven. Daft Punk closed the decade with "Homework" (1997), followed by "Discovery" (2001). More recently, Vitalic's "OK Cowboy" (2005), The Blaze and Confidence Man carry the dancefloor spirit onto full albums.
Many 1980s and 1990s dance hits never appeared on an album, so compilations and 12-inch reissues are often the cheapest way to collect them. Check whether they carry the original extended mixes or shortened radio edits. Each product page on Vinyles.com lists offers from several partner stores for the same record, so you can find cheap dance vinyl or a limited edition at the best price currently available.
