International funk is the explosive encounter between African-American groove and musical traditions from across the globe. In Benin, the Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou forged a hypnotic voodoo funk, while in Ghana, Ebo Taylor distilled an Afro-funk groove rediscovered through Life Stories. Brazil was not to be outdone: Tim Maia imposed a tropical soul-funk with Racional Vol. 1 & 2, and Banda Black Rio delivered the iconic Maria Fumaça.
