The quintet Swim Deep, originally from Birmingham, announces the release of their fifth studio album. They also unveil their first single, “Pieces Of You,” a striking alternative rock track: waves of distortion that give raw energy to its crystalline melodies. Following a sold-out tour in Thailand and China in December, and with an unexpected lineup change, “Hum” is the work of a reinvigorated band, driven by an innate passion for music — even in difficult times — and more self-assured than ever, while taking on the challenges of running an independent indie band for their fifth album. Thematically, “Hum” continues the life journey of “There’s A Big Star Outside,” which traced a pivotal period for Williams: preparing for the arrival of his first child, but also the departure of his wife’s father. The songs on “Hum” describe the consequences of that period, exploring grief, family, and our responsibilities toward those with whom we build our lives. With “Hum,” Swim Deep turns hardship into momentum and personal upheaval into collective drive. It is the band’s most powerful, boldest, and most exhilarating album in years — and the sound of a band still pursuing its dream with conviction, but now with a deeper stake.
