It's with their first album, Hunger for a Way Out, that Sweeping Promises made a name for themselves on the global underground punk scene, an album that established itself as one of the major musical revelations during the lockdown related to the pandemic. In 2023, they followed up with Good Living is Coming for You, a satirical and hypercritical critique of capitalism that appeared on the 'Albums of the Year' lists of Pitchfork, NPR, Paste, and the BBC, to name just a few. Bassist and singer Lira Mondal and guitarist Caufield Schnug decided to evolve their approach by a few degrees on their third album. The main theme of You Say I Romanticize is suggested in its title. A narrative that here features outsiders, excluded by society and transformed into fanatics of a multitude of specific causes. The visceral writing of You Say I Romanticize is accompanied by an equally visceral musical approach. Sweeping Promises enlisted drummer Spenser Gralla during the recording sessions to give the tracks the same intensity as during their concerts. The frenzy of this interpretation is also found in Lira's singing. A hidden side coexists with the love that Sweeping Promises has for its artistic community – born from eccentric characters who transform their status as "outsiders" into vibrant art and punk rock music. You Say I Romanticize takes up the ethic developed by the duo and explores the obsessive and fanatical aspects of ostracism and isolation by the dominant society.
