The musical portrait of a composer who draws a fascinating soundscape: Daniel TemkinMAKSIMAL brings together three major works by Daniel Temkin and at the heart of this album is the violin concerto Maksimal, written for Francisco Fullana, who performs it here with Ryan McAdams and the Maksimal Ensemble. Luminous, agile, and rhythmic, the three movements balance the virtuosity of the solo and the lively dialogue of the ensemble, referencing the principles of the baroque concerto while stretching them into broader, continuous arcs. From hazy harmonics and fragile wind textures to expansive, tumultuous waves, the piece unfolds like a meditation on the power and calm of nature. Recorded in Houston and New York, MAKSIMAL is Temkin's second solo album on Orchid Classics: a concentrated and immersive portrait of a composer drawn to sound as landscape, movement, and shared human experience.
