The operatic rarity Hypermnestre by Charles-Hubert Gervais is the last French opera of the 18th century, here conducted by Gyorgy Vashegyi. No French opera of the period would have been complete without the generous contribution of the choir and instrumental music. Gervais sprinkles the work with a dazzling series of divertissements and festive numbers full of dances... all performed with great stylistic insight and unmatched vitality by Vashegyi’s Orfeo Orchestra and Purcell Choir.
